Exposure triangle for my idea
The proposal has been of great value to me. It has helped me put down, what was once jumbled, fragmented ideas into one complete idea with different elements to it. It has helped me to know exactly what I want to create, and also made me evaluate my skillset which will help in developing my piece. I have also identified some of my key aims - the most important being to ensure my journalism abides by the NUJ's (National Union of Journalists) codes of conduct. One of my other aims is to educate and inform my target audience.

Exposure triangle for my idea
As I want to create a BBC news style report on the UK's problem with prescription drugs - one of the important components of this report will be an interview with a health expert e.g. doctor/pharmacist.
I want to have a shot like this in my news report. As you can see most of this shot is in focus however the background is slightly more blurred than the foreground (the doctor) therfore I will probably need aperture of around f16.
As the interview is not moving quickly e.g. like a runner in a sport event I won't need a really high ISO - I will probably need to set the ISO to around 200 ISA.
This screenshot was taken from a BBC News report. As you can see the interviewee (Prime Minister: Boris Johnson) is in focus in the foreground and the background is more blurred. In fact this background is more blurred than the first image therefore the aperture is lower e.g. f5.6.

Feedback reflection
Overall I am happy with how my pitch has gone - I feel like I got across my idea clearly, and also all my relevant research including target audience. I do however believe I could have sounded more enthusiastic, as its important that when you present a pitch, your audience are engaged. This is something that I will needed to continue working on, however I definitely think that by doing pitches like this, my confidence and therefore my enthusiasm is improving.
One of the really important pieces of feedback that I got was, what would I do if I couldn't get an interview with a medical professional - as this is a vital part to my news report and article. This has definitely made me think that a Plan B + C is important! I am planning on getting an interview with someone from Public Health England - the organisation that published the report on the UK's dependence on prescription drugs, in fact I am even going to contact the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock for an interview. I also planned that If I couldn't get an interview with them, then I would try and contact my local hospital to get an interview with a doctor. One of the main problems however I face with these options is that medical workers are busy at the best of times, and even more so now as they deal with the Covid-19 outbreak - so it is going to be very hard to secure an interview. Therefore as I mentioned in the video above, my other plan is to get an interview with my Uncle who is a Consultant Psychiatrist, and deals with patients that require prescription drugs like anti-depressants - he will be highly qualified and informed to interview for my news report. This piece of feedback really did help me get all my backup plans in place which means I am now prepared.
Another question/piece of feedback that I got was whether I was going to create my own news organisation for my report or use the BBC and their branding. Originally I was planning on using the BBC's branding however my lecturer, James Fox, advised me to create my own. And as one of my audience members mentioned this would also show off more of my skill set e.g. creating logos using for my news brand using photoshop, and using colour to convey messages - I could use red like the BBC's logo - red to me symbolises importance and urgency just like the news.
Another valuable piece of feedback that I got was how I am going to deliver the news to my audience in a different way to tv and news articles. My lecturer mentioned maybe looking at podcasts to deliver news. This has defiantly made me think of experimenting with different ways to output news to my target audience.
Finally as I have identified that my audience have left-leaning views - its important that I explore and research how I will embed these political elements to my piece e.g. talking about left leaning topics such as social injustice and also researching into narrative theories which will help me encode this information.
The feedback has been really useful and has defiantly helped me develop my piece.
